85-year-old woman becomes India’s oldest woman to undergo successful surgery for ovarian cancer
The first surgery of its kind took place, where an 85-year-old woman suffering from ovarian cancer was successfully operated and is now living a full life. She was admitted due to severe vomiting, abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction. There were many risks and challenges involved in this surgery but the health experts took care of everything in a professional manner. Read on to know more.

An 85-year-old woman has made a full recovery after complex surgery ovarian cancer At Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre. The patient, Mrs. Savitri Aggarwal, had come to the hospital with her grandson Dr. Vishnu Aggarwal. After all the tests and CT scan, she was diagnosed with an ovarian mass. Due to his old age, the patient’s family members decided not to undergo surgery, however, his health began to deteriorate rapidly. Mrs. Savitri was admitted to Jaslok Hospital after severe vomiting, stomach pain and intestinal blockage due to the growing tumor. Doctors said the condition was critical as the CT scan revealed that the ovarian mass had blocked the intestine, due to which she was not able to have bowel movements and everything was coming out through vomiting.
His stomach was badly distended not only because of the mass but also because of intestinal obstruction. A team of doctors including Dr Vishnu Aggarwal, Dr Vivek Shetty decided to perform the operation despite the risk and age factors. Cytoreductive surgery involved removal of the large ovarian mass, which was firmly attached to surrounding organs, requiring the removal of part of her colon and spleen.
The surgery lasted seven hours and was successful. The patient was put under the post-operative care of intensivist Dr Shruti Tandon of Jaslok Hospital. Dr Vishnu Aggarwal, Consultant Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery at Jaslok Hospital, said, āAge should never be a barrier to life-saving treatment. Although there were risks and challenges in Mrs Savitriās case, this successful surgery gave her another chance to live.ā Gave.
Mrs. Savitri was shifted from the ICU to the ward within two days. She soon started walking the next day and was discharged within a week of the surgery.
Dr. Vishnu Aggarwal further said that age should never become a hindrance. He said, “Although there were significant challenges in Mrs. Savitri’s case, the right treatment gave her the chance to recover and make a full recovery.”
Mrs. Savitri says she was initially nervous when she learned about her diagnosis. However, she thanked Dr. Aggarwal and his entire team as they reassured her about the procedure and gave her a second chance to live. “I am now able to enjoy life to the fullest with my loved ones. My message to others is this: no matter what your age, never lose hope.”
Dr. Milind Khadke, Director of Medical Services at Jaslok Hospital, said, āSmt. Savitri Agarwal’s successful recovery despite her old age gave her an opportunity to improve her quality of life. We believe that age should not be a limiting factor ” Proceeding with treatment, especially when there is a chance to improve quality of life.”
