Gangotri Glacier in Uttarakhand

This glacier located in Uttarkashi district is about 30 kilometers long. It is also a pilgrimage site where people come to take bath in the icy waters near the town of Gangotri. It is one of the largest glaciers in the Himalayas. The glacier is the primary source of the river Ganga, which is known as Bhagirathi at its source. The sacred nature of the Ganga makes this glacier highly revered by Hindus.

Located in the Eastern Karakoram Range in the Himalayas and near the LOC, it is the longest glacier in the Karakoram and the second longest glacier in the non-polar regions of the world. Furthermore, Siachen is the main source of the Nubra River, a tributary of the Shyok River, which merges with the Indus River.

Zemu Glacier in Sikkim

It is the longest glacier in the Eastern Himalayas. It offers breathtaking views of peaks like Mount Siniolchu, Simwo and Khangchendzonga. It is the main source of the Teesta River, an important river of Sikkim that provides water for agriculture and hydroelectric power. People from different parts also come for trekking on this glacier and it is considered to be an arduous experience. The best thing is that there is not much crowd of people on this glacier, making it an attractive place.

Milam Glacier in Uttarakhand

The largest glacier in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, it provides the main source of water to the Goriganga River. The glacier is located within the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for its rich diversity of flora and fauna. Many people also trek to this glacier and it is difficult. Beautiful views of the valley can be enjoyed from this glacier.
