A new study shows that women who spend four minutes a day doing high-intensity regular activities, such as climbing or running, may actually halve their risk of heart attack. This study has been published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
As part of the study, researchers found that as little as five minutes of exercise in everyday life can have a significant impact on heart health.
Experts who were not involved in the study said the findings are proof that moving your body, even for a few minutes a day, can really make a difference.
The study used data from 81,052 middle-aged people taking part in the UK Biobank study. He wore an activity tracker for seven days between 2013 and 2015. Of those, 22,368 people reported that they do not do any regular exercise or if they do, they only go for a walk once a week.
On the other hand, women who logged an average of 3-4 minutes of vigorous activity per day, but did not exercise, were 45% less likely to have a heart attack. We already know that any amount of exercise is beneficial for reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke. “This large study is evidence that moving your body and getting your heart rate up, even for a few minutes a day, can really make a difference in having a healthy heart.”
Studies have shown that even just a few minutes of vigorous activity per day can significantly reduce the risk of overall cardiovascular events, even for middle-aged women.
