Is American NFL legend Randy Moss battling bile duct cancer?
After announcing earlier this month that he was stepping away from broadcasting, NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss informed fans on Friday that he has been diagnosed with bile duct cancer. He revealed that he spent six days in the hospital and underwent surgery. Cholangiocarcinoma, or bile duct cancer, is a rare, aggressive form of cancer that often affects adults in their 70s and has spread beyond the bile ducts by the time healthcare providers diagnose it. Retired NFL superstar Randy Moss has announced that he is battling cancer. The 47-year-old said in an Instagram video that his cancer was found in the bile duct – between the pancreas and liver – and that he is a cancer survivor.
Moss informed her fans that she had undergone surgery and was released from the hospital after six days. In the video, he was walking with a cane, along with his two sons. “Your boy is suffering from cancer,” Moss said. “Definitely some tough times. But you know, we got through it and for that, I thank you all.”
Moss underwent chemotherapy
In the video, Moss also announced that she has undergone chemotherapy and radiation procedures, which will continue until her recovery. “All the prayers, well wishes—I felt that way. My family felt that way,” he said.
The Minnesota Vikings veteran first revealed his health issues earlier this month, telling fans he was “dealing with an internal issue” and praying. Since then, Moss has received an outpouring of support from media colleagues and former players.
What is bile duct cancer?
Also known as cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancer is rare and begins in your bile ducts — thin tubes that bring bile — a fluid that helps you digest fat — from your liver and gallbladder to your To the small intestine.
According to doctors, cholangiocarcinoma is an aggressive cancer and spreads very rapidly. Most people are diagnosed when it has spread outside their bile ducts and, therefore, it becomes difficult to treat, and the chances of cure are usually low.
Bile duct cancer signs and symptoms
According to experts, symptoms of bile duct cancer usually do not begin until the condition has progressed and blocked one of the ducts. However, some signs include:

- nausea and vomiting
- unexplained weight loss
While cholangiocarcinoma is not painful initially, a tumor can make it uncomfortable. For some people, the pain may transfer to other areas of their abdomen or back.
What causes bile duct cancer?,
Although it’s not known exactly what causes bile duct cancer, experts say chronic inflammation in your ducts may play a significant role. Continued damage from inflammation causes changes in cell DNA, which mutate and cause cells to grow and divide, forming tumors. These changes are probably not hereditary.
Some risk factors for bile duct cancer include:
