The travel experts at Scenic Cruises teamed up with psychologist Dr Gurpreet Kaur to reveal destinations that are scientifically proven to improve one’s mood. Mental health experts say the ranking was based on five key factors when it comes to dopamine release during travel.
High number of sunlight hours – being a natural dopamine provider. Food was another factor, with good quality foods being preferred. The rankings also took into account step counts, as walking reduces the stress hormone cortisol, and air quality – as poor measures can affect mood.
Dr. Kaur carefully selected each metric because they may stimulate dopamine. “Exposure to sunlight naturally increases dopamine levels, while quality food provides essential nutrients and pleasure,” he said. Studies have also shown that green spaces encourage mindfulness, which helps increase dopamine. Together, these elements create destinations that refresh and uplift the mood.”

After all the analyses, it was concluded that the most “dopamine-inducing” fate was the division of Croatia. With 2,631 daylight hours a year, travelers get a much-needed dose of Vitamin D to produce the feel-good hormone.
Amsterdam was also on the list. Although it is best known for its bicycles and canal waterways, it is also one of the greenest cities in Europe. The best thing about this place is that the city has a tremendous choice of parks – making walking a daily activity.

Next in the top three is the Estonian capital, Tallin. It is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe. Additionally, it is a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site. Tallin is home to a creative cuisine that finds its way into its Baltic heritage, where restaurants earn an average 4.6 out of 5-star rating.
