Harbin, known as China’s ‘snow city’, is a popular holiday destination for people living in warmer regions of the country.

Tourists from all over China and different parts of the world have started coming here harbinDespite temperatures dropping to -30C. Known as the ‘Ice City’ of China, it is a popular holiday destination for people living in warmer regions of the country. Tourists coming here are very eager to see the ice sculptures of the city.
The city has become a major center of winter tourism, attracting travelers from all over the world. This year, Harbin Ice-Snow World expanded its footprint to an impressive 1 million square meters. The park’s breathtaking structures were created using over 300,000 cubic meters of ice and snow.
For those unaware, Harbin is the capital of China’s Heilongjiang province and is home to over 10 million residents. Due to its close proximity to the border it is known for its Russian-influenced architecture. According to data from the Harbin Cultural and Tourism Bureau, from November 1, 2024 to January 7, 2025, the number of visitors to the city increased by 18.6% compared with the same period last year, with international tourist arrivals increasing by 41.1%. There was impressive growth.
Many of these travelers shared stunning views from the snow city on their social media handles.
Jin Yanlong, who runs a stall selling winter hats, gloves and shoes, spoke to the Mirror. He said most of his customers are tourists from southern China. Jin said, “Some tourists wear ‘too thin’ clothes. They come here immediately from the airport. They look for us to buy cotton padded warm trousers.”
