All about Bijli Mahadev Temple

The viral video is misleading, but the Bijli Mahadev temple is an important religious site. Located in the Kullu valley, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is visited by thousands of devotees every year. The name of the temple is ‘Lord of Lightning’, which stems from the belief that it has been struck by lightning several times. In fact, locals say that lightning strikes the temple once every 12 years. After the lightning strikes, the Shivling breaks into several pieces and the priests of the temple join these pieces with a special paste made with an ancient method. It is said that with the blessings of Lord Shiva, this special paste is so effective that the Shivling becomes as it was before.
