Shimla It is all set to become home to the world’s second largest ropeway project. Its construction is scheduled to begin in March 2025. The main aim of this project is to increase tourism and connectivity in the most beautiful hill station of the country.

Details about Shimla Ropeway Project

The new ropeway will cover an impressive distance of 13.79 km as it aims to provide a more accessible and scenic route for visitors as well as locals. It will significantly improve transport options and attract people. Travel Along with this, it will also offer spectacular aerial views of the natural beauty of Shimla.

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Shimla as well as boost local tourism. Its budget is Rs 1734.70 crore. Also, it will have 13 boarding and de-boarding stations and a turning station.
According to reports, the Himachal government will bear 20% of the project cost (around Rs 346.94 crore), while the remaining 80% amount will be financed through a loan from the New Development Bank.
Initially, the ropeway will be able to carry 2,000 passengers per hour. However, there are plans to increase this capacity to 6000 for two-way travel by 2059.
Meanwhile, Shimla is one of the most popular hill stations in the country, especially in northern India. If you are planning a trip, here are some places you can visit.

Rashtrapati Niwas or Viceregal Lodge

Situated on Shimla’s Observatory Hills, this building was previously the residence of the British Viceroy during the summer months when the administrative centre was moved to Shimla to escape the heat. Today, this palace-like structure is a great start to your colonial architecture trail across the city and houses historic photographs from India’s colonial years.

Town hall

The city has many Victorian-style buildings, many of which are well maintained. However, the most iconic is the Town Hall on Mall Road, which was built from wood but has been restored to give it a completely new look. This Tudor-style building is now home to the Shimla Municipal Corporation.

Himachal State Museum

The Himachal State Museum in Shimla is housed in the historic ‘Inverarm’, which was originally a small mud-roofed house built in the early 1860s, owned by General Innes. Over the years, it underwent several transformations, and became the residence of prominent personalities such as Lord William Beresford and General Sir Edwin Collen. In 1973, the building was renovated to house the Himachal State Museum, which was inaugurated on January 26, 1974 by Governor S. Chakravarti.
