Uganda is on high alert after a deadly Ebola The outbreak was confirmed in the capital, Kampala. The virus has already claimed the life of a nurse, fearing a widespread spread. There is no approved vaccine for Ebola’s Sudan Strain – Types responsible for this outbreak – Health Officer is moving quickly to launch a test vaccine in the hope of involving the virus before controlling the virus.
Pontiano Kalibu, Executive Director of the Uganda Virus Research Institute, confirmed that there are rapid tracking research protocols to deploy more than 2,000 doses of a candidate against scientist Ebola’s Sudan Strain. However, he emphasized that the vaccine is still subject to testing and is not yet a license.
“The protocol is being intensified to obtain all the necessary regulatory approval,” Calubu said.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting the response of Uganda and has already provided 2,160 doses of the test vaccine. The WHO confirmed that the research teams have been deployed on the ground to work with the monitoring teams while waiting for the final approval.

Why a vaccine test is important. Ebola’s Sudan is not yet an approved vaccine under stress. Recent outbreaks have raised concerns, as the authorities are still investigating its source. So far, no additional confirmed cases have been reported, but the health officials are closely monitoring the situation.
Uganda had previously accessed the trial vaccines during the outbreak of an Ebola in 2022, resulting in at least 55 deaths. However, due to the end outbreak within four months, the authorities were unable to study the vaccine.
In the past, another Ebola vaccineThe RVSV-Zebov, 2018 and 2020 were successfully used during the outbreak of the Zaire Strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo. More than 3,000 high -risk people were vaccinated, helping to involve the disease.

Tracking contact to control proliferation

The Ministry of Health of Uganda has identified at least 44 people who came in contact with the nurse, who died, including 30 health workers and patients. Contact tracing is important in preventing the spread of Ebola, which is a highly infectious viral hemorrhagic fever.

Ebola spreads through direct contact with an infected person or physical fluid of contaminated objects. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, severe muscle pain and internal or external bleeding in some cases.

Regional anxiety on hemorrhagic fever

Uganda’s outbreak is part of the widespread trend of outbreak of viral hemorrhagic fever in East Africa. Tanzania recently declared an outbreak of a disease like Marburg virus-Ebola this month. Rwanda also faced an outbreak of a Marburg in December, which was later declared.

According to local health officials, the ongoing Marburg outbreak of North Tanzania has already claimed at least two lives.

In the challenges with outbreaks out of the outbreak, about four million people have a significant challenge due to the city’s dense and mobile population. The infected nurse had sought treatment in several hospitals, including one outside Kampala, and also traveled to MBLA in East Uganda before being hospitalized.
Connecting the complexity, the patient also sought treatment from a traditional ointment, leading to increased concerns about further possible risk.

What do we know about Ebola

Ebola was first discovered in 1976 in the South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo together. It is named after the Ebola River, where the first was one of the outbreaks.

Scientists are still uncertain about the natural reservoirs of the virus, but they suspect that the initial infection is in contact with infected animals or through consuming their raw meat.
Uganda has experienced several Ebola outbreaks, killing hundreds of people in 2000. Between 2014 and 2016, the outbreak of the deadliest Ebola in West Africa claims the lives of more than 11,000 people.
Due to no approved vaccine for Sudan’s stress, the officials of Uganda are running against time to incorporate outbreaks before spreading. The success of a trial vaccine can play an important role in preventing future outbreaks and saving lives.
