If your mother has anything like me, she is always on her feet – Kukaiing, Cleaning, Working, and somehow is still managing to tell you to leave your socks in the living room . But here is the thing: Standing for a long time is not just tiredness, it can actually wreak havoc on the body. Stringed ankles, legs in the throat, leg pain, and even swelling -the source is familiar, right?
Good, good news! Certified yoga teacher Aakansha Gava has shared some easy exercises to help Mams (and honestly, all of us) to keep those legs happy and healthy. What else? They do not require membership of fancy gym in a few minutes a day. So, go ahead, tell your mother that it is time, and it is time to keep her feet up.
1. Ankle surrounds (20 times every side)
Whether she is cutting vegetables or looking at her favorite soap, your mother can do them easily. Just rotate the ankles into slow circles-clockwise and anti-clockwise. These small movements help prevent numbness and hardness, especially for those who stand for a long time.
2. Standing Quadriseps Stretch (30 seconds, repeat 2-3 times)
Ever realized that after a long day, tight, sore in your thighs? It is crying to help your quadriseps. This simple stretch-by bending one leg towards its butts and holding it, the-helps keep those legs the muscles loose and painful.
3. Toe and heel arises (30 times, controlled movement)
This is a game-chain for a trend! Lifting on the toes and then rolling back on heels keeps bleeding, which prevent the pain of the feet and knee. It is particularly beneficial for those dealing with diabetes or uric acid issues.
4. The wall moves up (10-15 minutes, or 30 if comfortable!)
Now, this is where things become serious. After a long day of standing, elevating the legs helps prevent swelling, water retention and even those pesky varicose veins. She can also do the same in a wall, a couch or bed. Just lie down, throw those legs up, and relax.
