When scrolling through social media, we often stumble when tasting the video. Whether the children are trying lemon for the first time or food bloggers sampling snacks from different countries, these clips are often seen millions of times. In the latest video making Waves online, a woman is trying for tamarind for the first time – but it is her unique description that has provoked a food debate. In the clip, the female refers to the tamarind as “dry beans” and describes its seeds as a “sticky larva” inside the shell. She says, “I don’t understand why people eat these dry beans. If you press lightly on the skin and peel it, like an egg, you will find a sticky larva inside.”
She explains that the fruit contains thread -like filaments that need to be removed before eating and warns others to be careful not to break their teeth on seeds. As for taste? The woman compares it to “sweet and sour date”. The caption of the post reads, “I don’t understand why people eat these beans.”

As you know, tamarind is used in a wide variety of Indian cuisine, including curry, pickle, marinades, drinks, etc. Many people were surprised that the woman did not even know its name! Here’s how users reacted:
“You lost me in the larva, read a comment”.
Another said, “Part of our staple diet in the southern states of India. We make many dishes using it.”
A user jokingly said, “Laughing Indians in the corner.”
A meal said, “We eat them with salt and red chili mixture. It raises the punch.”
“Did he just discover the fruit of tamarind, and referred to its pulp as ‘sticky larvae’? Gosh, the quantity of ignorance here is crazy!” One person said.
“It is a tamarind and not bean,” an Instagram user said.
The video has been viewed about 3 million times so far.
