Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder that affects a person’s way of interacting with the world. No two people suffering from autism are the same. Some will not be able to communicate effectively, but others may have special talent in art, mathematics or memory. This is called spectrum disorder, as it includes many symptoms, abilities and difficulties. Some will have minor problems, while others will need a lot of help. The way the autism presents itself depends on different factors, including genetics, environment, and brain development.
To get a clear picture of the same, we turned to a pediatric physiotherapist. Dr. Mohini shared significant differences in symptoms of autism and what is the real reason behind the different appearance in each person.
  • Major differences in autism
Social participation challenges
There are also autistic individuals who struggle with eye contact, understand social signs, or speak. Others will be able to enjoy social interaction, but cannot understand emotions or boundaries.
Communication difference
Dr. According to Mohini, there are some people with autism who never speak, while others have advanced language, but may not have two-way conversations. Ekolia will be common in something, while others will not be able to explain satire or jokes.
Repetition behavior and routine
Most autistic individuals display repeated behaviors, such as hand-flapping, rocking or repeating words. She says, “They may also need a strict routine and if their routine is unexpectedly interrupted, it can be distressed.”
Sensory sensitivity
Dr. Mohini says that some people suffering from autism are very sensitive to light, sound or texture, while others will look for intensive sensory input, such as deep pressure or loud noise. “Sensory sensations can create everyday activities, such as wearing some textures or eating some foods, very challenging,” she explains.
Unique strength and talent
Many autistic individuals have extraordinary abilities in specific areas, such as mathematics, music, memory, or problem-solution. Their different views for thinking make them extremely efficient to focus on details or identify patterns that other individuals cannot experience.
  • Why does each person look different
Now, we know that autism is a complex disorder that is influenced by genetics, brain structure and life experience, and so no two people experience it in the same way. Dr. Mohini explains that the gender can also affect the way of presenting autism; For example, girls can consumely or inadvertently mimic social skills so that the symptoms are less pronounced and diagnosis may be delayed.
Speaking of treatment, she says that each person presents autism specificly, treatment and care should be conforming to their personal needs. Speech and professional therapy and behavioral intervention help individuals to overcome challenges and get the skills necessary to live life.
