Senator Corey Booker has been making headlines ever since he gave the longest speech for 25 hours and 5 minutes. The 55 -year -old Democrat, who lives from New Jersey, kept talking and taking through the night in the next day. In the midst of his speech, he did not sit, he did not eat. In fact, he did not even use the toilet.
While many people are surprised at how the senator was able to pull it, which they do not realize that it can severely affect the body. Dr. Manjusha Aggarwal, Senior Advisor Internal Medicine, Gleniagles Hospital Parel Mumbai, while speaking to the media, said, “Speaking non-stop for about 25 hours will take a toll on the body, especially your vocal cords, respiratory system, and even mental good. Even temporary voice loss.”
He further stated that even longer talking without breaks can inspire dehydration, as vocal cords require constant moisture to function properly.
“Excessive talks stress on your breathing pattern. Lungs and diaphragm work has to work hard to help in speech, which leads to lack of breathing and dizziness over time. Over the period of time, it may lead to tiredness, headache and inability to focus in some cases.”
Talking for an extended period can often tax. This can increase your level of stress and anxiety and can cause a cognitive overload, making it difficult to clearly process ideas. If the conversation includes emotional themes, it can be stressful for the person who needs to speak.
To protect your voice and overall health, it is necessary to take brakes, stay hydrated and practice vocal comfort from time to time.
