A woman from America went viral on tiktok after recently shared her experience of living with non-stop menstrual bleeding for more than 1,000 days. In her video, a woman named Popi revealed how the doctor failed to capture a rare situation, which was actually seen in her first ultrasound.
The story of Popi began three years ago when he experienced bleeding for two straight weeks. Worried, he sought medical help. But instead of the answer, he was left with more confusion. Despite consulting several doctors, undergoing several tests, and trying various drugs, his bleeding continued – until months and finally years.
Popi said in his emotional video, “I was tired. My iron level was on the rock bottom. I had frequent cramps, body pain, headache and nausea.”
First, doctors diagnosed her polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common hormonal disorder. He found ulcers on his ovaries and suspected that he could be the reason for this. He was given the medicine and even an endless device (IUD) was put in the hope of controlling his duration. But nothing worked.
A hysteroscopy (a procedure to investigate the inside of the uterus), even after going through a period of MRI and several ultrasound, the source of the problem remained a mystery. Popi said that persistent bleeding and lack of answers affected her mental health and pushed her into depression.
He said, “Imagine bleeding every day for three years. I spent all my savings pads, new clothes, bedsheets … I cry every day,” she said.
Then, on his day 950, there was an amazing turn – thanks to one of his tiktok followers. Seeing the old medical report and scan again, Popi found that her position was actually seen in ultrasound long ago. But no one mentioned it.
He was detected of the Bacornut uterus in a rare congenital condition, where the uterus is shaped like a heart and divided into two chambers instead of one. The condition affects less than 5 percent of women and often misses during regular checkups. For some, this is not a problem, but for other people such as popy, it can result in prolonged bleeding, painful duration and reproductive complications.
According to the American College of Obstatetricians and gynecologists, irregular periods are not uncommon – 14 percent to 25 percent of the child’s birth affects women. But when symptoms such as persistent bleeding or pain appear, it is necessary to completely diagnose.
Now, the pope is finally hopeful of a solution. She is preparing a dispersion and treatment (D&C) process, in which the doctor will remove abnormal tissue from her uterus. He is also planning to remove his IUD and undergo a full hormone test. In addition, she is searching for surgical options to fix her heart -shaped uterus, which can eventually end her years of struggle. “Thinking about a life where I am not blood every day … it’s like heaven,” he shared.
