Karan Johar said that he is suffering from the body’s dismorphia, a mental health status where individuals are highly concerned about the alleged flaws in their presence. The 52 -year -old filmmaker said that he could still not see himself in the mirror. Body is also known as a dismal disorder, the situation causes you to see your physical appearance incorrectly. Experts believe that negative thoughts about your body and appearance can consume you and affect your quality of life on a large scale.

Karan Johar once again opened up about the body dismorphia – a mental health situation where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in his presence. However, the flaws do not pay attention to anyone by others.
Speaking on podcast, the 52-year-old filmmaker shared how this situation has affected his self-image over the years. “After 52 years, I finally feel confident. Otherwise, I am suffering from body dismorphia. This is when you feel ashamed on your body. When you feel strange without clothes. I still pass that. I still pass. I can’t see myself in the mirror,” he said.

What is body dismorphia?

Body is also known as a dismal disorder, the situation causes you to see your physical appearance incorrectly. Experts believe that negative thoughts about your body and appearance can consume you and affect your quality of life on a large scale.
While everyone’s body has unique features and differences, dysmorphia believes that one or more features of your body are flawed, forcing you to spend a significant amount of time or which you think is wrong with you, trying to change it.
While any condition can develop, doctors say it begins in your adolescence or early adult years. People usually develop body dismorphia around 12 or 13 years, and two-thirds of BDD people develop it before the age of 18.

What are the signs and symptoms of the body’s dismorphia?

Body dismorphia affects how you see yourself and feel about your appearance, and therefore, its signs and symptoms also take many forms, some of which are: some of which are:
  • Excessive amounts of thinking about “flaws” or “defects” in your body
  • Feel forced to see or check your appearance whenever you see a mirror
  • Change your appearance frequently to feel satisfied
  • Taking selfies to use apps and photo filters to check or change their presence again and again, or to hide or change those things
  • Feeling fear or anxiety because you feel that others are staring, doing justice, or making fun of things that you don’t like about your body or appearance. Some people even find nervous attacks while watching even those things they do not like about their body in a mirror or reflective surface.
  • Feeling ashamed or hatred about your body or appearance, especially specific things that you think are problems.
  • Binding behavior
  • Avoid situations where people can notice things that you do not like about yourself. This can disrupt your work or school activities or can cause you to avoid social functions.
  • Repeated medical procedures like cosmetic surgery
  • Thoughts of self-loss or suicide due to your presence.

What is the cause of body dismorphia?

Experts have no clue about how or why body dismorphia occurs, but they suspect that it includes many factors, including:
  • Genetics
  • Brain structure, chemistry and activity differences
  • Cultural impact and popular media
  • History of childhood misuse, neglect or bullying

Experts say that people who have dismorphia are more likely to have some other mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, food disorders, OCDs and even drug abuse disorders.
