The abortion provider British pregnancy advisory service said that there was a “limited provision” of surgical abortion in Wales after 14 weeks after 14 weeks.

According to a major health care donation, Wales is the worst part of the UK to provide surgical abortion with many women treated in England.

The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) stated that it was “surprising” that Wales was behind Northern Ireland, where abortion was reduced only in 2019.

A South Wales woman said that the idea of sending her far to the process felt additional trauma and guilt – including an operation to remove pregnancy from the womb.

The Welsh government said that it has accepted the reforms made for the middle-lived (13 to 27 weeks) abortion services, and women should be able to reach the necessary health services services.

Abortion laws are Victorian Age, mother says

In Wales, the abortion of England and Scotland is allowed up to 24 weeks of pregnancy with the approval of two doctors.

In 2019, abortion was reduced in northern Ireland, and before it was allowed only under very specific circumstances.

The abortion care provider BPAS told BBC Wales that Northern Ireland now offered second trimster surgical abortion beyond 20 weeks, scotland offered services up to 20 weeks.

However, Wales had “very limited provision” after 14 weeks, it was said, partially due to “skill difference” and some doctors.

Sara, not her real name, found herself unexpectedly pregnant.

She was already a mother, and because she had experienced post -birth depression in the past, could not face passing with pregnancy.

Sara, who is the late 30s, said that she did not want medical abortion due to earlier abortion, but was reported that she could not locate locally surgical abortion due to the current medical condition, which means that she needed a general anesthetic.

When she was pregnant for nearly 16 weeks, she was offered the process in London with payment and housing for two nights.

But he found the entire experience “really stressful”.

Sara said, “There was a great feeling of guilt, because I was being sent away.”

“I was imagining people waving and screaming people, I didn’t know which hospital it would be.

“After leaving my two children – which I did not leave for more than a night – what will we tell them, what will we do? This added a lot of extra stress and trauma.”

Sara decided to continue with pregnancy, until she was about 28 weeks, described it as a “really difficult time”.

“Emotionally, it was the worst heat of my life,” he said.

Sioned Williams of Plaid Cymru raised this issue in Sendd earlier this year

Ms. Sion Williams said that the Women’s Health Cross-Party Group was asking the Welsh government to work.

“It is important to me when we say something is a health right, as it explains in the new Women’s Health Scheme, that there is action behind it, and people are able to reach the abortion on time,” she said.

Plaid Cymru MS for South Wales West said they thought it could easily change because due to the relatively low number of women who need this care.

A spokesperson of the Welsh government admitted that the middle-trimester needs to improve abortion services, it fully accepts that women should be able to reach the essential health services services close to the house.

He said, “We are working with NHS Wales and identifying and addressing specific obstacles to provide surgical abortion services at the local level and we are finding out what short -term improvements we can make when developing a strong, permanent service for the future”, he said.
