A Delhi man claimed he was scammed by a woman he connected with online and shared his experience on Reddit. “I met a girl on a dating app. She insisted on meeting in a public place and then sent me the location on Hudson Lane, outside Bagheera Cafe. I met this girl outside Bagheera Cafe on Hudson Lane and she asked me to go inside Encouraged. However, as soon as I walked in, I felt bad,” he wrote in the post.

Upon entering the establishment, the waiter gave them menus and the woman placed her order. After a few minutes, he convinced himself to go to the restroom, which was actually a fire escape area, the man discovered. When the waiter brought his order he did not touch the food. He had shots of vodka and the man claims he later discovered they were water shots.

At the end of the date the man was left with a large bill. In the Reddit post, he explains, “She pretended she was getting a call from home, that she would get a headache in less than ten minutes, and that she wanted to leave. Do not touch any food or drink. Without, she wants me to pay the bill.” And went away as well. But before I could do anything, she left the café, and the waiter immediately brought me a bill for Rs 17170. When I ask for discount, they say they only give 10% discount on food items, but they force it. I have to pay Rs 16000. When I gave them my card, they said there would be an additional 4% charge, so they made me pay in cash.”

He says, “It seems to be a massive scam because a few hours later when my friend and I went there, we saw the same girl at another table. When we tried to enter the cafe, the security stopped us. And refused to go inside.” We came because they knew the girl was cheating other patrons”.

The Reddit user also alleged that the local police had a role in the scam. He wrote, “I have lost Rs 16000 and don’t know how to get my money back.” He warned others against visiting this “sad place”. In the comments, many people criticized the man for what they considered a very “generic” scam. Check out some of the reactions below:

“How can it be that this scam has been going on for at least a few years and someone or the other always falls for it.”

“This is a very common scam in Delhi and you still fell for it. Aah!”

“This is a well-known scam in Delhi, posted on mainstream news channels and many other forums. You could have avoided it.”

“Babe, wake up there’s another dating scam post on Reddit.”

“Bro, have you been living under a rock? This scam is all over the internet.”

“At this point, we need the restaurant’s Reddit sub-sidebar to survive.”

Earlier, a Reddit post had gone viral detailing how a Thane man got caught in a “Tinder scam”. He reportedly got a staggering bill of Rs 44,000 at a restaurant. The incident was shared by his friend, who warned others and posted a photo of Bill. The man’s date ordered a large number of items, including 18 Jägerbombs, two Red Bulls, French fries, salted peanuts, four chocolate truffle cakes and a special mix.
