October is considered to be the month of festivals, with all the major Indian festivals like Durga Puja, Diwali falling one after the other. bearing this in mind, Indian Railways has announced plans to introduce around 6,000 special trains. The main objective is to cater to the rush of passengers which is at its peak at this time.
Some of the most sought-after routes during these festivals mainly head to states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Durga Puja, one of the major Indian festivals, will begin on October 6, followed by Diwali on November 1 and Chhath Puja on November 7 and 8. The exact routes, dates and timings for these trains have not been officially announced yet.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the number of general coaches will be increased for 108 regular trains on popular routes. He also told what benefits these trains will provide to the passengers. Additionally, Indian Railways has announced the deployment of 5,975 special trains for this season.
Additional 12,500 coaches will be provided on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja. This is being done to ensure more comfortable and accessible travel.
Only development is being seen in Indian Railways. The development comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off six new Vande Bharat Express trains earlier this month. The launch comes as a part of a critical infrastructure boost aimed at enhancing connectivity and promoting regional development. The new Vande Bharat trains will connect various major destinations across India, improving travel options for passengers and facilitating quick travel.
The new Vande Bharat trains will increase travel efficiency, cut journey times and support economic and tourism development in the areas they serve. As of September 15, 2024, the Vande Bharat fleet, which now comprises 60 trains and 108 services, has completed nearly 36,000 journeys and carried over 3.17 crore passengers.
