Handcraft Market Committee (DHS) is celebrating its 38th anniversary by hosting a 10-day long craft market at the Handloom Haat in Janpath, Central Delhi. This even will start from 16th October.
Founded in 1986 by the renowned Jaya Jaitley, DHS has become a testament to an ideal craft community, empowering artisans across India. This has given them a strong identity and increased their social and economic status.
“Dastkari Haat Samiti is a union organization of craftsmen from all over India. Since 1986 the Samiti has been engaged in efforts to increase their market and their meager income through training, promotional programmes, design and product development projects and by organizing themselves adequately Organizing temporary and regular markets in various cities and towns of India, it has led to the establishment of urban haats as an innovative concept based on the traditional weekly “haats” or rural markets held in thousands of towns and villages across the country. In addition to the marketplace, DHS will also introduce a refreshed look to celebrate its heritage and commitment to artisans. It includes a new logo, featuring a focal red dot symbolizing creation and collective spirit. The logo also reflects the beauty of Indian typography, linking back to Jaitley’s previous projects.
This year’s market promises to be visually stunning. Visitors can explore a variety of crafts, including:
  • Carpet weaving from Uttar Pradesh and Kashmir
  • clay mirror work from gujarat
  • Terracotta from Odisha
  • oyster work from west bengal
Attendees will also get to see a variety of textiles including Bandhani, Banarasi weaving and block printing.
