Now one of the major commercial and transportation centers of Gujarat, Rajkot was founded by the Jadeja Rajputs and was the capital of the former Saurashtra state. During the British occupation, there was a lot of development in the fields of art, culture and education in Rajkot. The city is the birthplace of the best intellectuals who ultimately guided India in its struggle for independence. From gardens to parks and museums, Rajkot attracts tourists of diverse age groups.
Despite development, it still retains its old-world charm. Apart from its tourist attractions, the city is famous for the cuisine that can be appreciated in its restaurants. If you are planning to visit Rajkot, here are some must-see places.

The Khambhalida Caves, also known as the Rajkot Caves, are a group of three Buddhist caves. They are located near Gondal city in Rajkot district of Gujarat. These were discovered in the year 1958 by the famous archaeologist PP Pandya.

Ranjit Vilas Palace

It was built by Maharaja HH Amarsinghji of Wankaner. Its area is 225 acres. No visitors are allowed inside the palace except under special circumstances. The palace is decorated with a blend of historical architectural styles borrowed from Mughal, Dutch, Gothic and Victorian architecture.

Jagat Mandir

If you are fond of visiting temples then this place is for you. Jagat Mandir is a universal temple which houses idols of many deities. Additionally, it also takes into account religions such as Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. However, the main deity to which the temple is dedicated is Sri Ramakrishna Paramohansa. This statue is completely made of white marble.

Divine Park

Opened in 2008, Ishwarya Park is a popular destination. The 77-acre park has a huge lake where you can enjoy boating. Although the lake almost dries up during summer, it remains rich and full during winter.

Laalpari Lake

Lalpari Lake, located on the outskirts of Rajkot, is a delightful place to visit. The lake has a picturesque landscape that captivates the visitors and inspires them to spend the whole day admiring its beauty. The sparkling lake with its lush green surroundings is also an excellent picnic spot.
