While Reshma (the woman) died on the way to the hospital, her two daughters are still undergoing treatment,” a police officer told The Times of India.
Street food vendor arrested
After a complaint was lodged with food safety officials, police tracked down the street vendor and arrested him.
Inspection of the eatery found that it was running without the mandatory FSSAI license and food was being prepared in unhygienic conditions. “We have collected samples of food items found at the location and sent them to the state food laboratory for analysis. We have also issued orders to stop the operation. Blood culture and stool test reports of the victims have been collected to determine the exact cause of food poisoning,” said a food safety official.
Why are momos dangerous for your health?
According to experts, momos are susceptible to various health problems including food poisoning as most of the people selling it do not care much about health and hygiene.
The stuffing for momos – which includes vegetables and meat – is usually not washed and cut properly, may be expired and contaminated with E. coli bacteria and viruses that cause many infections such as:
- urinary tract infection
- abdominal cavity infection
- gastroenteritis
- vomit
- cramps
Even vegetables like cabbage and carrots, if not washed, can cause stomach flu, diarrhea etc. Cabbage commonly contains tapeworm spores that can reach the brain and eventually multiply, causing life-threatening complications.
Additionally, this dish is made with flour, which causes:
- Increases in blood sugar and insulin, causing metabolic dysfunction
- nutritional deficiencies
- displacing healthy foods from the diet
Refined flour is used extensively in making the dough for momos and its high starch content lacks fiber and causes a rapid increase in blood sugar when consumed. The hyperglycemic and hyperinsulinemia effects of refined flour can cause severe blood sugar fluctuations, which over time can significantly increase the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
To make matters worse, flour loses considerable dietary fiber, vitamins B and E, iron, magnesium and other vital nutrients during the refining process.
It also increases weight gain, obesity, high blood pressure and cancer.
According to many health experts, momos most likely contain mono-sodium glutamate or MSG, which not only causes obesity but also other health problems like neurological disorders, sweating, chest pain, nausea and nervousness. Also becomes the reason. Doctors say momos also contain mono-sodium glutamate or MSG, which not only causes obesity but also other health problems like nervous disorders, sweating and nervousness.
