Goa Dudhsagar Falls, After a chaotic few weeks of tussle between local jeep operators and the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), the tourist season for Dudhsagar Falls has finally begun, with tourism resuming in full force for this iconic destination. While the tourist season officially started on October 19, a controversy erupted as jeep operators opposed GTDC’s online booking fees, arguing that it would discourage tourists.

A few days ago, tourists who had gone to see Dudhsagar Falls over the weekend were stranded after some jeeps, which were supposed to depart for the falls, were stopped by other jeep operators. This led to a confrontation in the Kolam market, where the deputy collector and local police had to intervene to maintain order.

Following the hunger strike by the operators, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met them and agreed to reduce the booking fee by Rs 200 with an aim to find a middle path to satisfy both the parties. GTDC’s online booking system will continue, with a review planned in a month to finalize an agreement between the Dudhsagar Tour Operators Association and the government.

The prolonged standoff affected local businesses such as hotels and tea shops, which suffered losses due to the delay in the tourist season. With mining closed for over a decade, Dudhsagar tourism remains an important source of income for the villagers. And now the jeeps are once again moving towards the waterfalls. According to reports, around 110 vehicles registered offline with the DTOA transported 770 tourists, while 240 more vehicles transported another 1,440 tourists who had booked their spots online through the official portal of GTDC.
