Increase in dengue cases in Delhi, more than 400 cases reported in a week; Check preventive measures here
472 cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital in November. According to the Delhi Municipal Corporationās vector-borne diseases (VBD) report, a total of 4,533 dengue cases and three deaths have been recorded this year. Increase in dengue cases in Delhi, more than 400 cases reported in a week
4,533 cases have been reported in Delhi dengue And as per Delhi Municipal Corporationās vector-borne disease (VBD) report, three deaths occurred this year. The report also said that a total of 9,266 dengue cases were recorded in Delhi in 2023 while the death toll stood at 19.
In November alone, 472 cases of dengue were reported. The highest number of 2,431 cases were registered in October. The report said that the highest number of dengue cases were recorded in Najafgarh, South Delhi, Shahdara (North), Karol Bagh and Central Delhi.
The report also gives the number of malaria cases recorded in Delhi. 728 cases of malaria were reported in Delhi and no deaths. The national capital has also recorded 172 cases of chikungunya so far.
According to the report, this year the government has sprayed 23,61,013 houses and mosquitoes have been found positive in 2,74,290 houses. It has also issued legal notices to 1,56,265 for mosquito-borne conditions.
What is dengue?
Dengue, also known as break-bone fever, is a viral infection that is spread to people by mosquitoes. The World Health Organization says most people who get dengue will not have symptoms. But for those who do, the most common symptoms are high fever, headache, body aches, nausea and rash. Most will get better in 1-2 weeks. Some people get severe dengue and need hospital care.
In severe cases, dengue can be fatal. You can reduce the risk of dengue by avoiding mosquito bites, especially during the day. Dengue is usually treated with pain medication as there is currently no specific cure.
WHO says about half the worldās population is now at risk from dengue and there are an estimated 100-400 million infections each year.

- Wear protective clothing: Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks to reduce skin exposure.
- Use insect repellent: Apply repellents containing DEET or picaridin to exposed skin to avoid mosquito bites.
- Get rid of breeding sites: Remove stagnant water in containers such as flower pots, buckets and tires to prevent mosquito breeding.
- Use mosquito coils/repellents indoors: Use coils, plug-in-repellent devices or sprays indoors to avoid mosquito bites.
- Use mosquito net: Sleep under treated mosquito nets, especially in dengue-prone areas.
- Install Window Screen: Keep windows and doors closed or install screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering.
- Stay indoors during peak mosquito activity: Avoid going out during morning and evening hours when mosquitoes are most active.
- Maintain cleanliness: To avoid breeding of mosquitoes, keep the surroundings clean.
