Whipped Honey Tips and Variations

  • Type: You can use any type of honey, but the best type is raw honey i.e.Dark in color and at least slightly crystallized.
  • whipped up Beating the honey, especially if it has some crystals, will break up those sugar crystals and incorporate air, making it a soft, spreadable consistency. It’s thicker than regular but still liquid.
  • amount: You can whip up any quantity, so if you want to make a larger batch, go right ahead! To ensure that it is well whipped and aerated, you may want to increase the whipping time to 20 minutes.
  • Hot: If your honey is too crystallized, heat it in the microwave or water bath for 10-20 seconds before whisking. This will help loosen some of those crystals before they are completely destroyed.
  • try it on: You can sprinkle it on pancakes, toast, granola, fry bread, yogurt parfaits, rolls, oatmeal, or even tea or lattes.
  • Taste: You can add different things to change the flavor, like cinnamon, lavender, vanilla bean, ginger, or chili pieces for a warmer honey.

How to Properly Store Whipped Honey

  • shelf: The shelf life of honey, including whipped, is uncertain unless it is contaminated. But with this whipped honey, I found it best to use it within the first few weeks after it was whipped. The honey gradually loses aeration and separates with the aerated honey on top and the regular liquid at the bottom. If this happens and you want it to keep whisking, go ahead and whisk it again!
  • room temperature: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for the most spreadable consistency.
