This tropical island, which has the only airport in this archipelago off the coast of India, is barely 8 km long, with around 8000 inhabitants. What to do? Agatti Island
Life on the island is characterised by two simple things: water sports and sunbathing on the sandy beaches of Lakshadweep. But we recommend keeping the beach for your evenings and enjoying your mornings on the island with water sports to the fullest. Given the diversity of flora and fauna found in the calm waters, apart from the spectacularly coloured coral reefs, you would be remiss if you did not take part in scuba diving here. There are several water sports companies on the island that will take you snorkelling, diving and glass bottom boat rides (if you are scared of water). There are also facilities for kayaking, sailing and skiing.
If you find lighthouses fascinating, you can visit the Agatti Lighthouse located at the tip of the island. According to reports, you can also climb to the top of the lighthouse for panoramic views of the island and its surroundings, but it is important to ask the local authorities about permission while you are there.
When you have nothing left to do in Agatti Island, you can explore the neighbouring islands like Bangaram, Kadamat, Bitra, Amini, Andreti, Kalpeni, Minicoy, etc.
And then there’s the food. Since most of the population on the island is engaged in fishing, you can enjoy a wide variety of seafood here. Think delicious dishes like fish curry, shrimp and lobster. Don’t forget the local specialities like tuna and mackerel.
