Bicep’s Matt McBrayer reveals brain tumor surgery

Matt McBrayer, member of Northern Irish dance music duo Bicep, has announced that he is undergoing treatment for a “large and quite rare” brain tumour.
A Belfast man posted about his situation on your Instagram account,
They said he was found to have “a large and extremely rare craniopharyngioma tumor” on the pituitary gland in his brain.
He said he underwent surgery on Aug. 9 which went well and he is recovering in the hospital.

“In late 2023, I started to notice a weird fatigue that felt new, along with some intense localized headaches,” McBrayer said.
“I had a number of blood tests in the spring of 2024 which showed something was wrong, so my doctor arranged for an MRI and then a CT scan.”
He said that the tumor was detected at this stage.
“The good news is, first of all, it’s definitely not cancer and secondly, I caught it at an early stage of damage,” he said.
“I was very lucky to also get an MRI after the initial blood tests.
“If this condition had continued for much longer I would have probably lost my vision and could have had a number of other problems because of the pressure on my optic nerves due to the size and position of the tumour.”

He added that he had “decided to live life as normal and perform shows and that it was important for him to personally keep his mind occupied during the initial treatment.”
He said the surgery would take six to eight weeks to recover “and a long period of aftercare, but I feel very grateful and lucky”.
The Belfast-born/London-based Bicep duo – McBrayer and Andy Ferguson – are childhood friends who bonded over their shared love of dance music.
He has been performing live for over a decade and has become one of the biggest names in underground and mainstream dance music.
McBrayer said Ferguson will continue to perform upcoming shows as a Bicep soloist until further notice.
