Blood victims waited for thousands dying âtwo weeksâ
Infected blood victims are dying âtwo weeksâ, waiting for compensation for the biggest scam in the history of NHS, the campaigners say.
More than 30,000 people in the UK were given HIV and Hepatitis C -infected treatment in late 1970s and late 1990s, resulting in over 3,000 deaths.
Tony Summers, 89, whose son died after infected blood products, said he was told that he could not get compensation until 2029 and he is afraid that he had died before.
A Labor MP described the delay as âembarrassingâ, while the infected blood compensation Authority (IBCA) stated that its priority was âas soon as possibleâ to give compensation to many people.
What is infected blood scam?
In May 2024, a public investigation found that the authorities covered the scale that is now known as Infected blood scam,
In response, the UK government separated ÂŁ 11.8bn to compensate the victims â including parents, children, and brothers â out of which 140,000 can be several as many.
But many victims, charity and inquiry chair, Sir Bryan Langstaff have expressed concern about how to apply compensation and when it is happening.
According to the IBCA, forty people have accepted compensation proposals, and 18 people â less than 1% â are less than 1% of them.
âI just want it to endâ

Mr. Samers claims that he cannot get compensation until 2029 â five years after the final report of the investigation is published.
âBy then I will be 93 years old, you start doubting,â he said.
âPeople are still dying of any affected diseases. Parents are dying. So it seems as if there is a policy (that)â If we hang for a long time, we will not have to pay that money. â
âPeople are dying for two weeksâ

Hemophilia Wales President Lin Kelly said that people wanted to close after campaigning for more than four decades.
âPeople are dying in two weeks at this time, so we are really in a difficult situation,â he said.
âThey are delayed and delayed because more and more people are dying.
âInfected are dying, and when the affected die, their claim dies with them, so no claim is made and a little, less and less people will be eligible for compensation and less money will be paid.
âHe has been ignored for 40 years, he has campaigned for 40 years. We feel that history has been repeating itself. It is a heartbreaking heart.â

How much compensation will the victims get?
IBCA is administration of payment, which are free from tax and will not affect the profit.
A person infected with HIV may expect to get compensation between ÂŁ 2.2m and ÂŁ 2.6m.
With a chronic hepatitis C infection, which has been defined as lasting over six months, may expect to get between ÂŁ 665,000 and ÂŁ 810,000.
The partner of a person infected with HIV who is still alive today can expect to get about 110,000 pounds.
About 4,000 survivors or their bereaved families have also received interim payments of up to ÂŁ 310,000 since 2022.
All-party Parliamentary Group (APPG) president Labor MP Clive Iffard said the situation âhas become a shameful issueâ on hemophilia and contaminated blood.
âWe give these people to get this compensation out of the door as soon as they suffer from many years as a result, they have been forced to take them in the state.â
IBCA interim CEO David Fole said its priority was to pay âas soon as possible, we build a compensation claim serviceâ.
Mr. Foli said that the IBCA had now approached more than 250 people, but he said âhe knows a lot that he is waiting for more compensationâ.
âWe will continue to increase the number of payment of compensation made as we construct the service of claims,â ââhe said.
âWe are committed to paying the majority of infected people by 2027 and the majority of people affected by 2029 â these payments are making much faster than this, wherever possible.â
