Cases of seasonal flu, respiratory diseases rise in Hyderabad; Tips to keep yourself safe
Hyderabad is witnessing a rise in cases of seasonal flu and respiratory diseases. Doctors say that the number of cases is likely to increase in the coming weeks. On the other hand, cases of dengue and malaria have reduced. Read on to learn about tips to keep yourself safe from seasonal flu and respiratory illnesses.

Cases of seasonal flu, respiratory diseases increase in Hyderabad
Cases of seasonal flu and respiratory diseases are increasing in Hyderabad. According to a TOI report, the state-run fever hospital recorded around 500 fever cases every day, most of which were influenza cases. Doctors say that the number of cases is likely to increase in the coming weeks. On the other hand, cases of dengue and malaria have decreased, with 168 cases of dengue and 13 cases of chikungunya recorded this month.
Dr Ahmed Athar, General Medicine, Apollo Clinic, said, “We have received 20 patients complaining of health problems related to low temperatures and air pollution in the city in the last two weeks. This is a 10% increase in the number of patients coming to us compared to previous weeks. The most common problems being reported are cough, cold, fever and headache.”
The state health department has issued an advisory stating that acute respiratory infections, seasonal flu and influenza are likely to spread and listed those who are at higher risk. These include pregnant women, children under five years of age, older people (over 65 years of age), individuals with chronic medical conditions (such as chronic cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal, metabolic, neurodevelopmental, hepatic, or hematological diseases), and individuals with immunosuppressed conditions. Including/treatment (such as HIV, malignancy, or receiving chemotherapy or steroids).
“Although patients of mixed age groups are coming to us, people in the age group of 30 to 45 years are the most coming to us for such issues,” said Dr Ather.

Drink plenty of water and make sure you get 7-9 hours of quality sleep. It helps strengthen the immune system, which helps the body fight infections.

To reduce transmission risk, maintain a safe distance from people showing symptoms of flu or respiratory illness.

Regularly clean high-touch surfaces like door handles, light switches and mobile devices to reduce exposure to germs.
