A Shanghai restaurant is going viral to sell half a chicken dish in an additional amount of 480 yuan (Rs 5,600). Citing the cause of this expensive rate, the restaurant revealed that the special chicken was picked up on classical music. On 14 March, a businessman and the influential visited the Shanghai Club Restaurant in China. He posted a video online, shared his experience of being a small part of the expensive chicken dish, reported the South China Morning Post (SCMP). In now-viral footage, the impressive expressed his mistrust at the cost of chicken. He asked the restaurant employees whether chicken “was raised to listen to music and drink milk.”

To his surprise, staff members confirmed his claim. He shared that a rare chicken breed in special dishes is called “sunflower chicken”. The breed is obtained from a farm in Guangdong province in South China.

A member of the Sunflower Chicken Farm employees told a Chinese media outlet that while these specifically breed chickens listen to classical music, they are not fed milk. Sunflower chickens, when compared to regular chickens, have a special diet. They are fed to fresh juice extracted from the sunflower stem and faded flowers, grown in a commercial sunflower garden. They have yellow beak, legs and skin. Emperor is also known as chicken, this breed is preferred among the michelin-starred chefs. Chicken is popular for its juicy taste and soft texture when cooked.

According to SCMP, the businessman agreed to pay for the dish. However, he was not ready to believe the stories of the restaurant employees, labeled them as a marketing strategy.

The Internet reacted sarcastically:

“Amazing, bizarre stories that can be made to sell products,” a user wrote.

“One can catch a small portion of a dish from low developed areas in China, and easily sell Shanghai people at a very high price,” another said.

One person humbly commented, “Can my chicken cost 1,888 yuan a dish? They were lifted by listening to Shanxi music.”
