One of the many social media revelations is from a woman from southwestern China, surnamed Liu. The reason his story is in the news is because of the male and female reproductive organs present in his body, making him both mother and father to his two sons.
As mentioned in South China Morning PostLiu was bullied as a child for âlooking like a manâ and using womenâs toilets. Born in Bishan County in Chongqing Municipality, she identifies as a woman according to her identity card.
At the age of 18, she married a man surnamed Tang, and the couple had a son. However, shortly after, Liu experienced a physical change, an increase in androgenic hormones. As a result, hair grew on her face, her breast size decreased, and male reproductive organs became visible throughout her body. Unable to deal with these changes, her husband divorced her.
Custody of her son was awarded to Tang, and Liu relocated to another county, where she worked in a shoe factory. It was here that he met a woman named Zhou. While same-sex marriage is still illegal in China, Liu sought help from her ex-husband Tang. He agreed to marry Zhou in exchange for Liuâs financial support for his son. In the early 2000s, Zhou gave birth to a son, making Liu the childâs father.
Liuâs story gained popularity in 2005 and continues to recirculate on social media today. While medical professionals have offered her physical examinations and gender reassignment surgery, she has chosen not to pursue it due to the high cost.
Why does Liu have two reproductive systems?
it is called bisexualityThe condition of having both male and female reproductive organs. While it is commonly seen in plants, or animals such as insects, moss animals, snails, slugs, etc., in humans it is described as intersex,
It is also called disorder of sexual development (DSD). Although these conditions are rare in humans, they still exist. It is known as ovotesticular disorder Or true bisexuality.

What happens in ovotesticular disorder?
This occurs when a person has both ovarian and testicular tissue. These two may be separated, or fused, and are therefore called ovotestis. People who have this disorder have sex chromosomes that show male-female mosaicism, which is where a person has both male XY and female XX chromosome pairs. The chromosome complement is 46XX, which is most often present. Such individuals have ambiguous external genitalia, including a large penis. Thus, they are often bred as males. However, breast development occurs during puberty, and some may also menstruate and, in rare cases, they may actually produce sperm. For Liu, this was his matter.
If diagnosed at birth, sex is usually chosen by the parents based on the condition of the external genitalia, followed by intersex surgery to remove the gonads of the opposite sex.
