What is hormone replacement therapy?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment primarily used to reduce symptoms associated with hormonal imbalance, especially during menopause. HRT involves the administration of hormones – usually estrogen, progesterone, or a combination – that the body no longer produces at adequate levels. Menopause often brings symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, and decreased bone density, which can affect quality of life. By restoring hormone levels, HRT aims to reduce these symptoms and support overall well-being. Some studies also suggest that HRT may improve mood and cognitive function during menopause.
