History
The origin of the Karni Mata Temple is linked to the life of Karni Mata, a respected woman of the Charan caste who lived in Rajasthan during the 14th to 16th centuries. She is believed to be an incarnation of Durga, the Hindu goddess of power and victory. Karni Mata is also believed to have performed many miracles, including reviving her stepson Laxman.
Temple Architecture
The Karni Mata Temple was built in the early 20th century by Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner. The entire structure of the temple is made of marble and its architectural style resembles the Mughal style of architecture. Adding to the charm of the attractive marble façade are solid silver doors which are also the entrance. The idol of Karni Mata of Bikaner is enshrined in the inner sanctum of the temple, which is a 75 cm high idol. The idol of the goddess is accompanied by the idols of her sisters on either side.

Important rituals
A regular event at the Karni Mata temple includes Mangala-ki-Aarti and offering of Bhog by the Charan Pujaris. Devotees visiting the temple also offer various kinds of offerings to the Goddess and the rats. These offerings are generally classified into two types – Dwar-Bhent (given to the priests and temple-staff) and Kalash-Bhent (used for the maintenance of the temple).
