With the biggest festival of the year approaching, we all want to look and feel our best. However, after two weeks of indulgence and broken weight-loss promises, how do we get through it? You might have probably come across various dos and don’ts for a healthy lifestyle that can make you glow both inside and out. So, let’s embark on a 10-day journey to help you look and feel amazing this festive season with a detox and reboot plan to suit most of us.
Detox diets generally involve routines designed to reset your system to the state it was in before the binge period. The goal here is to flush out all the toxins that have recently accumulated, helping you feel refreshed and invigorated. After all, you not only want to look your best during the busy holiday season, you also want to feel energetic as you go from one party to the next.
Keeping this in mind, here is a 10-day customized detox plan to help you feel refreshed before Diwali 2024, which will be celebrated on October 31, 2024.
Diwali Detox 2024: 3 steps to reboot and detox plan before Diwali
Step 1 – Clean the Kitchen
For the next 10 days, it’s time to say goodbye to all those convenience foods and say hello to fresh foods made with real ingredients. This means all ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook food is gone! You’re also giving up sugar and table salt—yes, those are going bye-bye, too. Refined grains, like white flour, are on the no-go list, so stay away from them! No white rice or bread, and pasta made with white flour? forget about it! Processed foods are a no-go, so no jams, bakery goods like biscuits, cakes, buttercream, margarine or even peanut butter! And don’t even think about reaching for beverages like coffee, tea, wine, flavored drinks or soft drinks. Time to clean out the fridge and freshen up!

Diwali 2020: Eat only fresh food made with fresh ingredients for the next 10 days.
Step 2 – Get in the mood
Sprouted whole grains, sprouted moong and legumes are easily prepared. All fresh vegetables including potatoes and fruits will be part of our diet. Keep stock of almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, sesame seeds and flax seeds. Apart from this, make a habit of consuming healthy whole grains like barley, oats, buckwheat, brown rice and other millets. Dry fruits are also allowed. Sea salt or rock salt would be a nice replacement, as well as honey and jaggery for the salt and sugar. Tofu, soy milk, goat cheese and fresh cottage cheese replace normal cheese and cottage cheese. It would be wonderful if you could use fresh milk from an organic farm in place of regular dairy milk. Tea and coffee will be replaced with herbal tea/green tea without milk and sugar.

Dinner should be your lightest meal and eaten as quickly as possible.
- Whole Food Soup with Fresh Vegetables and Pulses: Add your favorite veggies and make a nutritious, hearty meal in one bowl. Do not use store-bought stock cubes to make soup.

On day 8, I recommend fasting the entire day. Drink fresh juice, thin lassi and coconut water. However, if you find yourself very hungry at dinner time, you can choose one of the dinner options from Week 1 and eat it in limited quantities – ideally at least 2 hours before bedtime. -3 hours ago.
Week 2 Meal Plan for Diwali Detox
This week you will continue to follow all the rules but start adding vegetables and proteins of your choice.
Non-vegetarian people can replace protein with eggs, chicken breast or fish. Now you can switch from soy milk to regular skimmed milk, and if you want, you can use regular cheese instead of soy cheese or tofu.
If you feel like snacking at 5 pm, consider one of these options, but make sure you limit yourself to 20-30 grams. You’ve worked hard all last week, so don’t give up now!

Diwali 2024: Follow all the rules but start adding vegetables and proteins of your choice.
Breakfast at 5 pm:
- nuts and seeds
- Fruit
- roasted gram
- puffed rice
- fat free fresh popcorn
- A slice of cheese on a whole-grain cracker
- Half an apple with 15 grams mozzarella
Important tips during detox:
- Daily exercise. Do 20-30 minutes of exercise with pranayam, light stretching exercises and warm-up routine. For those of you who don’t exercise, this would be a good way to start. Those of you who exercise for long periods of time, or do tough sessions, may enjoy a gentle routine of stretching and breathing.
- Getting 6 to 7 hours of sleep is another barrier to your rejuvenation cycle, so pack away your tablets and computers and turn off your phones. Your goal is to sleep early and wake up early in these 10 days. Give me plenty of time, go for a massage, get a manicure/pedicure, pamper yourself.
- With a regular routine, you’ll first notice changes in your skin, which will look and feel healthier. The nutrition you get from seeds, vegetables, fruits and fresh ingredients will rejuvenate your hair.
- Another thing you need to do is to feel what is happening to your body, make a conscious connection and listen to the rhythms of your body. This is just a beginning, with consistency you can turn it into a healthy lifestyle which is the best SIP for life.
Happy Diwali 2024 everyone!
