passengers are flying DelhiIndira Gandhi International Airport, Note: Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has announced that T2 will be temporarily closed for four to six months for critical upgrades during the next financial year, the work of which will be completed in 2025-26. and will conclude by Q2 FY26.
What is changing at T2?
The 40-year-old terminal will be given a much-needed facelift to improve the passenger experience and future-proof its operations. Key upgrades include six new passenger boarding bridges for seamless boarding, state-of-the-art flight information display systems as well as extensive mechanical and electrical improvements for operational efficiency. Renovation of the airside and apron areas of the terminal is also planned as part of this upgrade.
The modernization will increase T2’s capacity to meet the growing air travel demands and ensure a better travel experience for millions of passengers.
Will this affect your flights?
While T2 is closed, the newly renovated Terminal 1 will handle the additional passenger load, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. DIAL has assured passengers that all efforts are being made to provide smooth transition during this period.
with Delhi Airport Handling approximately 1,300 flight movements per day, these upgrades are necessary to meet the growing demand for domestic travel. Emphasizing the importance of this upgrade, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said, “With passenger traffic at its peak, these enhancements are important to provide a world-class travel experience.”

On June 28, 2024, heavy rain caused the roof of Terminal 1 to partially collapse, killing one person and injuring eight. The incident had prompted officials to immediately close the terminal for repairs and safety inspections. The T1 terminal, which is mostly used by low-cost carriers like IndiGo and SpiceJet, was improved and reopened to passengers.
At the same time, in August 2024, a new building in Terminal 1, complete with all modern facilities, was also opened for passengers.
