Is it better to eat fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables? Letās find out:
According to fitness coach Ralston DāSouza, some frozen fruits and vegetables may contain more nutrients than their fresh counterparts if they are not used immediately. āFor example, frozen peas contain more vitamin C, some B vitamins, and antioxidants than fresh peas,ā he says. He explains that the freezing process slows the loss of nutrients in fruits and vegetables. On the other hand, fresh produce left in stores for several days will lose nutrients over time. Ralston says frozen corn may also have higher levels of vitamin C and carotenoids than fresh corn. Therefore, freezing is a highly effective way to preserve nutrients in food. Plus, frozen fruits and vegetables are often more convenient, cheaper, and possibly more nutritious.

So, does this mean that frozen is always better than fresh?
Absolutely not! Ralston says if you can get farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, thereās nothing better than that. These have high nutritional value and provide maximum health benefits as compared to frozen or other products available in the market. However, if you are unable to get them from the farm or consume them on time, purchasing frozen products is a better option.
How to cook frozen vegetables correctly?
Now that you know that frozen produce can contain more nutrients, you may be wondering how to cook it properly. While frozen fruits can be enjoyed as is, vegetables require cooking. Be sure to thaw them before cooking to ensure you get their full benefits. This helps the vegetables cook evenly and prevents excess moisture. Also, donāt forget to add salt or pepper to them for added flavor. Another thing to keep in mind is not to overcook them, otherwise they may become mushy and lose their flavor quickly. Also, you donāt need to cook all the vegetables like carrots and sweet corn. Just let them come to room temperature and youāre good to go.
