How to make dried tomatoes in the sun at home

Making dried tomatoes at home at home is a simple yet time consuming process. Here is a step-by-step guide:

  1. Preparation: Wash the tomatoes thoroughly and dry them. This ensures that no moisture or dirt on the surface remains.
  2. Slicing: Cut tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick slices. Keeping slices uniform helps them to dry evenly.
  3. Organizing on a tray: Put the tomato slices flat on a tray, making sure they do not overlap.
  4. Sun-drying: Keep the tray directly seven hours a day in sunlight. The drying process usually takes 5-7 days, based on the thickness of the slices and the intensity of the sun.
  5. Cover for safety: If necessary, cover the tray with a muslin cloth to keep the insects and dust away.
  6. Daily routine: Ideally, tomatoes should be kept out from 9 am and taken from 4 pm. If the sun is weak, the drying process may take longer, and there is a risk of making molds.
  7. Storage: Once tomatoes dry completely, store them in an airtight container. Properly dried tomatoes can last for months.
  8. Renaissance: Before using, soak them in warm water for a few minutes to soften them.
