Never seen that a person uses eggs as a canvas for complex pictures? Recently, the Guinness World Records (GWR) shared a video about the world’s biggest performance of the world’s engraved eggs. The current record holder is Ma Chao, which consists of 1040 eggs in incredible performance! The clip shows a glimpse of the artist at work – carefully carving the outer shell of the entire egg with the face of different characters from a TV show. He uses a special tool to complete the same. “Ma Chao’s artwork took three years to complete and egg engraving was inspired by Journey to the West, in 1986 a TV series adapted to the Chinese classical novel of the same name,” GWR said.

In the video, we see that the engraving is complex – characteristics such as hair, beard, eyes and other facial features (and expressions) are presented in great detail. The reel also shows a brief side-by-side comparison of the engraved eggs and screenshots of real characters. Ma Chao scored a record in Langfang, Hebai, China, and was verified on 3 March 2025. He first began working on carving these eggs in October 2020. Take a look down:
