Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has erupted once again after remaining quiet for three months. The fountains of lava were up to 300 feet high, creating a breathtaking sight that is attracting thousands of tourists to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Many people shared pictures of the stunning sight on their social media handles. According to reports, the eruption began late at night and had spread over a 500-acre area of the caldera floor. As the crowd entered the park, the viewing points were packed. Take a look at the shared pictures.
The eruption is visible from almost anywhere near the caldera. However, some are location specific, including:
Crater Rim Trail: Provides access to Ukahuna, Kilauea Overlook, Wahinekapu (Steaming Bluff), and Kupinai Pali (Waldron Ledge).
Behind the Volcano House: Another iconic spot for spectacular views.
Keanakakoi Overlook: This is the perfect place to see lava flows up close.
For those unaware, it is one of six active volcanoes located in the Hawaiian Islands – which also includes Mauna Loa, the world’s largest volcano. However, Kilauea is more active. At present no one knows how long the eruption will last. Kilauea’s eruptions vary in duration, lasting from two weeks to more than a year. However, activity tends to slow down or stop suddenly.
