Tyson said he vomited blood and was diagnosed with a two-and-a-half-inch-large ulcer
The great Mike Tyson expressed no regrets over his defeat to Jake Paul in a heavyweight boxing match, saying he “struggled to stay healthy” after a scare in June which led to the fight going ahead.
The 58-year-old boxing legend had earlier revealed in a documentary that he had postponed his previously scheduled fight on November 15 after facing an emergency due to a growing ulcer. He said he vomited blood and was diagnosed with a two-and-a-half-inch-large ulcer.
Before the medical emergency, Tyson had also posted videos of himself running but struggling while doing so, which worried many fans. A month later, he had medical concerns.
“It’s one of those situations where you lose but still win,” Tyson posted on Instagram on Saturday after the fight with Paul. “I’m grateful for last night. There are no regrets about entering the ring for the last time. I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions, lost half my blood in the hospital and 25 pounds and struggled to get back to health so I won,” he said in a tweet.
Tyson also lost weight due to a stomach ulcer. However, the boxing champion returned to full training by the end of the summer.
what are stomach ulcers,
A stomach or peptic ulcer is an open sore in the lining of your stomach that causes severe stomach pain – often with a burning or cutting quality. However, according to doctors, not all stomach ulcers cause noticeable symptoms.
Experts say stomach ulcers are common and treatable, but they can become serious if they go without treatment for a long time. Some ulcers bleed continuously, causing significant blood loss over time. Some may continue to erode until there is a hole in your stomach wall.
Also known as gastric ulcers, doctors say they treat about 14 million stomach ulcers each year worldwide.
What symptoms does gastric ulcer cause?
While typical ulcer pain feels like a burning sensation from the acid in your stomach, doctors say it occurs because stomach acids, enzymes, and other chemicals eat away at the wound. Many people also experience indigestion with stomach ulcers – burning pain accompanied by a feeling of fullness. However, other symptoms include:
- yellowness or pallor
- dizziness and weakness
- black blood in your stool
- vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- Sudden, severe stomach pain that doesn’t go away.
- If you develop any of these symptoms, consult a doctor immediately.
What causes stomach ulcers?,
The two most common causes of stomach ulcers are H. pylori Bacterial infections and excessive use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Statistics show that these two factors together are responsible for approximately 99 percent of stomach ulcers.
However, some other reasons include:
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
This is a rare condition that causes your stomach to produce too much gastric acid, which destroys the lining.
psychological stress
You may get stress ulcers if your body is struggling to recover from a life-threatening illness or injury. Severe physical stress alters your pH balance, making your stomach more acidic.
