Global furniture retailer IKEA is renowned in many regions for its home-made food offerings. Their meatballs are considered an iconic dish in shops around the world. The brand recently made a historic move into the dining industry by opening its first standalone Swedish restaurant on King Street in Hammersmith, London. The establishment is located next to IKEA’s renovated Hammersmith City store. According to the company, the location used to house Wasabi Restaurant and can now seat 75 diners.
Menu highlights include IKEA’s signature meatballs served with mashed potatoes, peas, cream sauce and lingonberry jam, a vegetarian version of the same (called “Plant Balls”), penne pasta, couscous and yogurt. Also includes salmon etc. There is also an offering called “Children’s Pasta and Tomato Sauce”, which includes a soft drink and a piece of fruit. The establishment serves breakfast dishes daily until 11am. Guests can choose between combos like the six-piece “Small Cooked Breakfast” (which includes bacon, sausage, hash browns, omelet, baked beans and tomato) and the nine-piece “Regular Cooked Breakfast”, which includes bacon, sausage, Extra parts included. And hash browns.

“We know how much our customers love IKEA restaurants and we’re excited to celebrate the opening of our first high street restaurant,” Matthew Gould, market manager at IKEA London City, said in a statement. You can recharge during your shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, come for a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids on the High Street.’
The previously mentioned kids meal is the most affordable menu item and currently costs 0.95 GBP (about Rs 100). According to a report by The Guardian, some early customers of the Ikea restaurant have appreciated the relatively low cost of food, especially by London standards.
