Bengaluru An increase in flu-like symptoms and respiratory infections is being seen, leaving many residents grappling with seasonal health challenges. Cold weather has led to an increase in diseases like seasonal flu, viral bronchitis, asthma and respiratory allergies. Health experts attribute this seasonal increase to a combination of several factors, including cooler temperatures, less outdoor ventilation and increased exposure to allergens.
Why are respiratory diseases more common in winter?
The winter season brings many changes that create an ideal environment for respiratory diseases to flourish. Colder temperatures often result in increased activity indoors, where people are more likely to be exposed to airborne irritants. Dust, mold, and pollutants from common household activities like cooking, burning incense, or candles can aggravate respiratory symptoms.
Additionally, the cold air itself can irritate the respiratory tract, causing conditions such as asthma or bronchitis in sensitive individuals. Limited ventilation in closed spaces also allows viruses, bacteria and allergens to accumulate, increasing the chance of infection.
