Ways to Manage Your Childrenâs Eyes After Diwali
According to Dr. Parker, there are some ways you can manage the eyes of children after Diwali to protect them from the ill effects of pollution:
recognize the Symptoms of eye damage
If you notice any signs of eye injury â actively seek medical help. If you think you may have an eye injury, seek medical attention immediately. Never try to treat eye injuries alone.
drink lots of water
Dr. Parker emphasizes the importance of hydration as it protects the skin as well as the eyes from drying out. It also helps restore the moisture barrier in the eyes and reduce further irritation.
Maintaining this hydration routine after Diwali can prevent excessive dryness and soothe eye discomfort.
keep your eyes lubricated
For starters, be sure to use artificial tears to keep your eyes well lubricated, and drink enough water to prevent dehydration.
Choose safe fireworks
If children insist on bursting crackers, choose fireworks that are considered safe and are authorized by the local government if you want to use them. Check for labels stating that the fireworks meet safety standards. âHomemade crackers or those with confusing labels should be avoided as they may be more harmful,â he said.
Supervise the use of fireworks
Children should always be supervised when near a pyrotechnic machine. Make sure they know that handling sparklers and other fireworks is only appropriate for adults. For fireworks displays, maintain a safe distance and set up a special location away from children and animals.
provide protective goggles
Keep safety glasses handy and encourage children to wear them when they are around fireworks or bright lights. Since prevention is always better than cure, protecting their eyes from sparks and debris by using safety glasses can significantly reduce the chance of damage.
