India, a country of over 1.42 billion people and significant pollution, is facing a severe shortage of organ donations. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India lags far behind the global average in terms of organ donation rates.
Data shows that around 1.8 lakh people in India suffer from kidney failure, yet only around 6,000 people undergo kidney transplant annually. Similarly, liver failure and liver cancer claim an estimated 2,00,000 lives every year in India. While the country requires 25,000 to 30,000 transplants annually, only 1,500 procedures are performed each year.
One of the key challenges is lack of awareness. Every person who dies, whether naturally or accidentally, is a potential organ donor, but many are unaware of this opportunity to save lives.
To tackle this situation and raise awareness about the importance of organ donation, Jupiter Hospital, Thane has organized a marathon on January 5, 2025. It will start at 5:30 am from Singhania School, and is aimed at educating the public. To educate and encourage organ donation. vows
