Vagamon’s popular Glass Bridge has reopened for visitors. Due to security concerns, it was inaccessible for 125 days. However, the closure gave enough time to the civil engineering department of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kozhikode, to prepare an interim safety report. It outlined the most important security measures. After the implementation of these recommendations, the bridge was approved to reopen.
Built at an altitude of 3,600 feet, the bridge provides visitors with an opportunity to enjoy views of far-flung places like Kokkayar, Kuttikkal and Mundakkayam. There is also an adventure park nearby which includes attractions like sky cycling, sky wing, giant swing, sky roller, zipline and rocket injector.
On the day of reopening, approximately 600 tourists visited the site. According to Jitesh Jose, secretary of Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), strict security checks will be carried out. This will be in line with the recommendations of NIT. Here are some guidelines you need to keep in mind.
  • The bridge will be open daily from 9 am to 5:30 pm.
  • The ticket price per person will be Rs 250.
  • The bridge will be temporarily closed in case of bad weather.
  • Children who cannot walk and need to be carried will not be allowed on the bridge due to safety reasons.
  • Senior citizens who have mobility problems will not be allowed to ensure their safety.
  • Running or playing on the bridge is prohibited.
  • On busy days you will need to wait about 2 to 3 hours.
