Known for its picturesque towns and pristine beaches, ItalyThe Amalfi Coast is heaven for all coastal babes. The UNESCO World Heritage Site attracts approximately five million visitors annually. However, its attractiveness is often overshadowed by its challenging access. Things are now all set to change with the revival of Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport.
Located approximately 45 kilometers from Amalfi and 21 kilometers from Salerno, the airport will resume commercial operations from July 2024. Not many people know but this airport was originally built in 1926 and has served various roles – including as a military airport and private facility.
It has also served as a commercial center for some time between 2007 and 2016. But now, this relaunch will be a new chapter.
Initially, the airport will start serving flights to destinations such as Nantes in France and Cagliari in Sardinia from July. Additional routes to Verona and Catania will also be added in September. Initial operations will be led by a Spanish airline.
By the year 2043, this airport will be able to handle 60 lakh passengers annually. This will help relieve congestion at Naples International Airport, which welcomed 12.4 million passengers last year. At the moment, it is the nearest airport to the Amalfi Coast. To reach the Amalfi Coast, visitors take a taxi direct from Naples or some prefer to take a train to Sorrento.
