Kailash mountain darshan from India? A new initiative of Uttarakhand Tourism makes this possible
Travelers can now witness spectacular views of Mount Kailash from India through Uttarakhand Tourism’s ‘Mount Kailash Darshan from Indian Soil’ pilgrimage.

For Hindus, Mount Kailash It has immense spiritual significance in Tibet. Traditionally, reaching this sacred peak required a challenging pilgrimage through China. However, Uttarakhand Tourism has launched an unprecedented initiative – Kailash mountain darshan From Indian soil. This exciting new package allows pilgrims to visit the majestic mountain in the comfort of the Indian Territory.
The first batch of pilgrims successfully set off on this historic journey on October 2, 2024, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. They got to see breathtaking views of Mount Kailash and holy places Om mountain Next day.

This 4-night/5-day tour includes a helicopter ride that takes you from Pithoragarh to Gunji, a village nestled amidst the Himalayas. From here, you can make your way towards the Old Lipulekh Road Where the view of the sacred peak is visible from a vantage point. The package also includes one day of sightseeing Adi KailashAnother sacred peak, as well as Om Parvat while in Gunji. Accommodation will be arranged in Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) or local homestay.

In July this year, Uttarakhand had announced that the old Lipulekh Pass, which was closed since the pandemic, would be reopened for travelers. While the traditional Kailash-Mansarovar route remains closed on the Chinese side, the Indian route offers an intriguing alternative. You can also do this journey yourself. Pilgrims can now travel by vehicle from Dharchula to Lipulekh, followed by a short trek of 800 meters to ‘Kailash View Point’, a vantage point with unobstructed views of Mount Kailash. The point from where Mount Kailash is clearly visible was reportedly discovered a few months ago by a team of officials from Uttarakhand Tourism, BRO and ITBP.
