Kanha National Park is spread over an area of 940 sq km in the Maikal Hills range. Including the buffer and core zones together, the total area of Kanha Tiger Reserve is 1945 sq km. This vibrant land has been the source of inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s masterpiece: “The Jungle Book”.
Safari Booking
Bookings for the monsoon season in the buffer zone are available now. However, bookings for the core and buffer zones are accepted from October 1. According to the official website, here are some important things to know for jeep safaris:
- Jeep Safari amount is non-refundable/transferable and non-cancellable once Safari Voucher is issued.
- If your safari is not booked due to reasons like technical error or unavailability of seat, your entire amount will be refunded.
- Pick & Drop facility is available on additional payment.
- Only officially registered guides can join your excursion.

The official website states: Tourists holding single seat permits will have to pay for the vehicle and guide at the time of entry inside the park in addition to the permit fee. The total fare for the guide and the safari vehicle will be distributed equally among the tourists present in the vehicle and paid at the time of entry.
Kanha Museum
The Kanha Museum is a must-visit during a safari in Kanha National Park. It is an important tourist attraction located near the Kisli Gate. It is managed by the Forest Department. You can expect to learn a lot about the park and its animals. There are specimens, charts, models and photographs here, which provide detailed information about the food pyramid prevalent in this forest.
