While this is a traditional way of doing it, what if we tell you that you can make your regular meal even healthier with podi made from the superfood moringa? Yes, you read it right! Moringa podi idli is quite different and a must-try for all idli lovers. But, before we introduce you to the recipe, let’s clear some basics.

What is Podi?

For those who don’t know, podi is a vibrant South Indian spice mix commonly known as chutney powder. The mix is ​​made from a combination of whole spices, pulses and masalas and is extremely versatile, making it irresistible for every household. You can enjoy podi with idli, dosa, uttapam, rice or even curd rice!

How is Moringa beneficial for your health?

The main ingredient in this delicious recipe is moringa, which offers numerous health benefits if consumed regularly. The powder made from moringa leaves is rich in antioxidants that can help lower cholesterol levels and control blood sugar levels. Also, if you have digestive issues like constipation, bloating, gastritis, etc, moringa can help deal with them. Do you have skin problems? The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties of moringa make it ideal for skin care. With so many benefits, it is essential to include moringa in your daily diet. And this moringa podi idli is the perfect way to do so!

How long can you store Moringa Podi?

Although moringa podi tastes best when eaten fresh, if you have made a large quantity, you can store it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 2 months. However, keep checking for signs of spoilage. Before using, analyze its color, texture, and smell. Moringa podi should retain its original color, and smell fresh rather than spoiled. Also, throw away the podi if you see any mold or lumps in it.

How to make Moringa Podi Idli at home | Moringa Podi Idli Recipe

It is very easy to make Morinda Podi at home. This recipe was shared by nutritionist and digital creator Aashti Sindhu (@aashtis) on Instagram. To make it:

  • First, clean and wash the moringa leaves. Remove the thick stem and dry them thoroughly. Once done, add them to a large pan and dry roast them until the leaves become crispy. Keep it aside.
  • In another pan, roast chana dal, urad dal, black pepper, cumin seeds and sesame seeds till golden brown. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  • Then add some oil to the same pan and fry the garlic and chillies for a few minutes. When the garlic turns brown, remove it from the flame.
  • Add lentils, seeds, garlic and chillies along with a big piece of tamarind and salt in the blender. Grind it to a fine powder and take it out in a plate. Repeat the same process with moringa leaves. Mix all the ingredients well.
  • Put some oil in a pan and add the idlis to it. Sprinkle two tablespoons of moringa podi over it and mix well. Serve hot!
