Your mother is always a flexible pillar of your family, loving, taking care, and nourishing all 24×7. She will do everything around the clock at the cost of her own health. And so, this Mother’s Day, instead of doing some jewelery, clothes, or makeup, is advised to invest in something that keeps him healthy and takes care of his good.
As our mothers are getting older, the risk of diseases and health conditions is also spikes, and therefore, according to experts, they will have to undergo some important health check-up regularly, which can diagnose and identify conditions so that they can be treated well in time. Here is a curate list of some important health tests that each mother should take after the age of 45 years.

Pap smear

Also known as a papanicolau test, a pap smear is a detailed process to remove cells from the cervix and the surrounding area so that they are examined for cervical cancer, which is one of the most deadly conditions that affect women around the world. These cells are then examined under a microscope to identify any cell change that can lead to cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer is caused by HPV virus, which causes warts. Doctors say that HPV type 16 and 18 are the primary causes of cervical cancer. It is also recommended that you get the pap smear regularly on the basis of your age regardless of your sexual activity. This is very important because the HPV virus can be inactive for years and then suddenly active in women.

Thyroid test

A thyroid function or TFT is a blood test that helps in monitoring the effectiveness of thyroid suppression. Doctors can perform one or more blood tests to check your thyroid function, and these tests include thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSH), T4, T3 and thyroid antibody tests.
Your thyroid produces two major hormones – T3 and T4 – and these deficiency may experience symptoms such as weight gain, energy deficiency and depression.

Blood pressure test

If your mother has some underlying health issues such as type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, or heart problems, doctors may recommend more frequent testing of blood pressure levels. According to experts, each woman will have to check it at least two or three times a year, as it helps measure pressure in the arteries as heart pumps.
A blood pressure test notes your blood pressure against the walls of your arteries by placing an inflatable phlegm around your upper hand, pumps it from the air until it feels tight, and then slowly removes it. The test takes a few minutes and is measured in the millimeter of mercury (MMHG).
Systolic pressure – pressure when your heart pushes out blood out – and diastolic pressure – when your heart rests between the beats – then noted. The normal blood pressure is between 90/60 mmHG and 120/80 mmHG.

Lipid profile test

Also known as a lipid panel or cholesterol test, a lipid profile test measures the amount of cholesterol and other fat in your blood. You can always take your mother to assess the risk of heart disease and stroke. Ideal test results include:
  • LDL: Less than 100 mg/DL
  • HDL: 40 to 60 mg/DL (a high number is better)
  • Total cholesterol: less than 200 mg/dL
  • Triglycerides: less than 150 mg/dL
  • VLLL level: under 30 mg/dL

Mammogram

According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women around the world. And so, it is recommended that every woman over 40 years of age find a mammogram to detect the onset of breast cancer.
If your mother has a family history of women suffering from breast cancer, she will need to start this test first in life.
