A big good news for all the train passengers of Mumbai is that the city’s Western Railway is all set to launch a brand new air-conditioned local train on December 25, 2024. The train was recently brought to the Kandivali yard and has been running for some time. Final checks and testing before hitting the tracks.
Additionally, Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) aims to introduce 238 AC rakes in 18 months, starting with the fast corridor. While stakeholders express optimism about the reliability of the service, concerns remain about affordability among passengers.
As of now, around 1.24 lakh passengers – around 4% of the 31 lakh daily passengers – already choose to travel in AC locals.
